Died Monday morning at 8 o'clock, I.G. Stansbury, an old and well known citizen, known to young and old throughout the city as "Uncle Ike"
Mr. Stansbury was born in St. Mary parish, Sep. 9, 1843. When war broke out and the call to arms was made, though young in years he answered it and served with Co. G, 18th Louisiana, Capt. John McGrath's company, until the battle of Chickamauga, where he was captured.
After the war was over he returned to Louisiana and May 3, 1866 was married to Miss Mary E. Hale, who with four of the six children survives him. The two eldest children died very young.
Those living are; Mrs. William Fisher, Mrs. Grant Fairchild, Mrs. John Jenson and James Stansbury.
Mr. Stansbury was a loving husband and father, a friend to be relied upon and of the highest type of citizen. He was a life long member of the Methodist church.
