J.D. Jates, 74, of Kennett, died Sunday , Jan. 22, 2006, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Born Sept. 21, 1931, in Hoxie, Ark., son of the late John Joseph and Rachel Benton Yates, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion.

On Sept. 21, 1972, in Kennett, he married Clolene Cook, who survives.

Survivors also include one son, David Allen Yates and wife, Barbara, of Kennett; one step-son Gerald Don Moore, of Kennett; two brothers, Joe Ramen Yates and wife, Wilma, of Cherokee Village, Ark., and Billy Don Yates, of Ravenden, Ark.; one sister, Margaret Salter, of Roanoke, Va.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Yates and one sister.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kennett with Wesley Key officiating.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.
