For a time he was in Birmingham, Alabama working for a railroad and then he went to Mobile, Alabama. He married Inez (Chaffin) Odom in Oct 1956.
He retired from the railroad and they lived in Mobile. Inez was a widow and he helped raise her two sons, Bobby and Kenneth Odom.
He died in 1980.
He was a lionel train collector.

Sills Mr. James H. Sills-A native of Memphis, TN and a resident of Mobile for a number of years, died in a local hospital on Monday, February 11, 1980. Mr. Sills was a member of the Sage Ave. Baptist Church and the Abba Temple Shrine, the Woodlawn York Rite Bodies in the Woodlawn Masonic Lodge 525, Birmingham Alabama. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Inez Chaffin Sills of Mobile; 2 sons, Kenneth R Odom of Mobile and Bobby L. Odom of Fayetteville, AR; one daughter, Mrs. Dave T. Larson of Pittsburgh, PN; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Keller and Mrs. Jo Ella Burkle, both of Memphis, TN; one brother, Vernon Sills, also of Memphis; five grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Radney. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
