Salisbury has very few names of Union Soldiers, they were buried in long trenches.
Conditions were terrible as it was a cold winter and the men had tattered clothing and no shoes. One reports of blood being on the ice from soldiers cutting their feet while walking through the snow.
There is little information on Pvt Allen, no town where he enlisted in and this writer could find no pension records for him. Two possible pension cards were impossible to read.
