TAHLEQUAH — DELHI, Calif. – Jessie Morris, 73, of Delhi, Calif., passed away on Saturday at Emanuel Medical Center.
He was born to Carl and Lula Morris in Ellerville and moved to California at age 7. He lived most of his life at Harden Flat in Groveland, but when he was 17 he joined the U.S. Navy.
While in the Navy, he directly served with the admiral while on the carrier U.S.S. Lexington. In 1957, Jessie married his childhood sweetheart, Wanda Tucker. They were married for 53 years.
A heavy equipment operator, Jessie worked in the Groveland area for 20 years and helped build some mountain roads. He has lived the last 40-plus years in Delhi, Calif.
Jessie is survived by his wife, Wanda Morris; his son, Anthony "Tony"; daughter-in-law Roene ("Sis") Morris of Delhi, Calif.; one granddaughter Casey Morris of Delhi, Calif.; and a sister Joyce Eastham of Tahlequah.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Jean Locklin.
A visitation for Jessie will be at Allen Mortuary on Sunday, Nov. 28, from 3-5 p.m. A celebration of life will be at Allen Mortuary on Monday, Nov. 29, 10 a.m., followed by interment at Turlock Memorial Park.
