"George C. Brown

WHITEHALL - George C. Brown, a town councilman for 32 years and secretary-treasurer of the Greenmount Cemetery Corp., died Sunday (Sept. 19, 1985) in his Comstock Road home after a long illness. He was 82. Mr. Brown, a retired dairy farmer, was a charter member of Whitehall Grange 92 and organized both the Whitehall Fire Company and the local Farmers' Insurance group. He also had served as treasurer of Phoenix Lodge 96, Free and Accepted Masons. His other memberships included the First Baprist Church, the Skenesborough Museum, the Senior Citizens, the Chamber of Commerce and the Historical Society, all of Whitehall. He also belonged to the National Grange. He was born in Whitehall on Sept. 8, 1903, the son of Murray and Pearl Carleton Brown. Besides his wife of 58 years, Bernice Foote Brown, surviving are: two sons, Paul F. Brown of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Glen M. Brown of Whitehall; a sister, Ursula Bickford of Whitehall; a brother, Frank Brown of Whitehall; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc., 46 William St., by the Rev. Glen Bachelder, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
