THELMA WILLIAMS
Thelma lona Williams, of Dixon, was born on October 22, 1914, in Pulaski County, a daughter of Joseph Smith and Nettie Harriet (Baker) Newkirk, and departed this life at 2:09 a.m., Sunday morning, September 25, 2005, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehab, Dixon. Mrs. Williams had been in failing health for some time and had attained the age of 90 years, 11 months, and three days.
Mrs. Williams was united in marriage on March 1, 1930, at Waynesville, to Mr. Dolph Williams, and to this union three

children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on January 14, 1990; her father on May 26, 1981; her mother on December 31, 1971; three brothers: Wayne Newkirk, April 30, 2004; Marvin Newkirk, August 10, 1993 and Paul Newkirk, 'May 7, 1993; and one son-in-law: Glen McDowell.
Mrs. Williams was baptized early in life and was a long time member of the Santee Church near Dixon. She had worked for Brown Shoe Company, Dixon, and a local flower shop.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Williams include two sons and one daughter-in-law: James and Pat Williams, Russell Williams, all of Dixon; one daughter: Lois McDowell, Granite City, Illinois; two sisters: Blanche Goodman, Dixon, and Elsie Vesper, Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren: Carl McDowell, Jeff Williams, Carol Rickerson, Connie Taylor, Crystal Holzer, Lane Williams, and Bridgette Purcell; eight greatgrandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, fond and precious memories of Mrs. Williams will long remain in the hearts of her dear family and all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Williams at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday morning, September 28, 2005 in the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon, with Pastor Dors Wilson, pastor Santee Community Church, Dixon, officiating. Two songs, "Amazing Grace" and "In The Garden" were sung for the funeral service.
Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon. Pallbearers for Mrs. Williams were Paul Newkirk, Jr., Wayne Sloan, Randall Withers, Stanley Martin, Kenneth Warnol, and Eddie Baker.
Expressions of sympathy are suggested by the family to the Santee Community Church, Dixon, with envelopes available at the Long-Gilbert Funeral Home, Dixon.
