Fred Ackerman, 75, well known Deadwood resident and barber, died at his home in first ward at 3:45 a.m. Thursday after a long illness which became critical last week.
He was born in Paterson, N. J., March 10, 1869. He moved west when he was a small boy. His parents died during his boyhood.
He was married in Linwood, Neb., January 1, 1892 to Gladys Zulauf. He operated barber shops in Linwood, David City, Omaha and Plattsmouth, Neb., before the family moved to Deadwood in 1903. With the exception of two years spent in Hill City, Mr. and Mrs. Ackerman have made their home here since.
Ackerman followed his trade as a barber until ill health forced him to retire about three years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Ackerman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago here.
He is survived by his widow and a daughter, Mrs. Irvin (Ruth) Pfander of Deadwood.
Funeral services will be held at the Buehler and Wells chapel Sunday afternoon. Burial will be in the Spearfish cemetery.
