Gertrude M. (Gokey) Abair, 81, of 453 East St., a 20-year cafeteria cook for the School Department, died on Wednesday at home. She worked at the East Street Elementary School, and retired in 1980. A lifelong resident, she was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, and a member of its St. Anne's Society. She was a chorister for 60 years, and a former treasurer of the parish's Confraternity of Christian Doctrine program. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Springfield, a member of the Senior Citizens, and a committeewoman with the Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops for many years. Her husband, Alphonse L. Abair, died in 1994. She leaves three sons, Leon H. and Philip L. of East Longmeadow, and Kenneth E. of Sturbridge; a daughter, Lucille R. Moquin of Windsor, Conn.; 17 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be on Saturday morning at Ratell Funeral Home in Indian Orchard, Springfield, and the church, with the burial at St. Aloysius's Cemetery in the Orchard. Calling hours are this afternoon and evening, and memorial contributions may be made to the church at 181 Hubbard St., Ludlow, 01056, or the Board of Health Nurses, 488 Chapin St., Ludlow, 01056.
