“The sad news of the death of Carl Layer of Arizona, son of Charles Layer of this city reached the young man’s parents last Saturday. His brother Will Layer had been in the north having his summer’s outing, when he received news that was to change so many of his plans. Will and Carl were at the head of the Sonoran News Co. with headquarters in the city of Mexico, Mexico. Carl died of the typhoid fever; his remains arrived Wed.; services were held at his father’s home before interment.” 1 CT 9-8-1898
