Born in Mundakayam, India, on December 29, 1927, Friar Joseph Maurice Vadassery OFM. Cap., joined the Capuchin Fathers at an early age, taking his simple vows on February 16, 1949.
Taking his solemn vows on February 16, 1952, he was ordained to the priesthood in Rome, Italy, on March 25, 1955.
Successively, Friar Joseph served as vice-master at Monte Mariano; director of the Profesorium at St. Antoby Quilon and later at Kottagiri; vicar and novice master at Loreto Muvatupuzha; vicar and rector of Initiation at Monte Mariano, Furugipet; rector of university students at Dharwar; spiritual father at Kotagiri; vicar provincial at the Provincialate of Aluva; rector of Initiation at Portiuncula, Kattappana; spiritual father at Alverna, S. Battery; and friar guardian at Shanti Bhavan.
Between 1972 and 1974, he underwent studies in Rome, obtaining a licentiate in sacred theology. He passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2010, aged 82. Funeral Mass was celebrated the following day at Bharananganam.
