Mr. James Curtis Barrow died very unexpectedly at his home sometime in the early hours of March 6, 2003. Jim was born in Winchester, Ky,. April 17, 1927, the only son of Ethel Pope and G. Curtis Barrow. He was preceded in death by an only sister, Lois Johnson and his beloved daughter, Linda Ann Barrow Ohlson. He graduated from Winchester City High School and attended Eastern University in Richmond, Ky. He then obtained a degree from Art Institute of Pittsburgh. After his first two positions as art director with Donahue & Coe Advertising in New York City and the Courier Journal in Louisville, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in special services at Ft. Belvoir, Va. from Aug. 1952 to Aug. 1954. Upon discharge he joined the Mullican Co. in Louisville, Ky. and met and married Betty Jean Fischer in 1955. He started a long career in Winston-Salem in 1957 by joining what was Long, Haymes & Carr Advertising. Upon retiring he concentrated on his artistic abilities and leaves a legacy of many works of art to be cherished by their owners. His survivors, including his wife, are his children, Barbara F. Barrow of New York City and David C. Barrow and his wife Amy of Winston-Salem; his grand-children, David Adam Barrow and Emma Dorothea Barrow; and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Mr. Barrow was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The memorial service will be held there at 11 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2003. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Church General Building Fund or to a college scholarship fund for Emma and Adam Barrow. His ability to be a good friend was known by all.
