AGE: 83 FREDERICKSBURG, VA

Joseph B. Connell, Sr., 83, died on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Heartfields Assisted Living in Fredericksburg.

He was born in Forty Fort, Pa., to Aloysius F. Connell and Mary (Trapold) Connell on March 11, 1927.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Connell served in the Navy as a Pharmacist's Mate.

Until his retirement in 1992, Mr. Connell spent a majority of his career in education serving in the Flemington-Raritan School System as Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Non-Instructional Affairs.

Upon retirement, he supervised the construction of the Francis A. Desmares Elementary School.

Mr. Connell also served as the past Chairman of the Raritan Township Board of Adjustment, past President of the Hunterdon International Management Club, and was a licensed real estate agent in the state of NJ.

Mr. Connell started his career as a teacher in Caldwell, NJ, and then served as a Principal in Westfield, Berkley Heights, Essex Fells, and Flemington, at Daniel K. Reading Middle School (Reading-Fleming Intermediate School) prior to his appointment as Assistant Superintendent in 1978.

Mr. Connell received his BA (Education) from East Stroudsburg University, his MA (Administration) from Columbia University, and pursued his doctoral education at Farleigh Dickinson University and Rutgers.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, Dolores (Filipow) Connell, he is survived by his sister Patricia Fotiu of Toms River, NJ; two daughters, Kathleen Silveira and her husband David of Middletown, RI and their son Jacob Sharp; Pamela Ervin and her husband Lance of Justin, TX, and their children Tyler, Travis, Sam, Aubrey and Grant; and three sons, Joseph B. Connell, Jr., and his wife Lori of Fredericksburg, VA, and their sons Brian and Kevin; Paul Connell and his wife Vivian of Chapel Hill, NC, and their children Hagan and Hadley; and Michael Connell and his wife Johnna of Alpharetta, GA, and their children Miller, Price and Jesse Connell. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Alice Williams and Ellen Quinn, and a grandson, Jesse Sharp.

After his retirement, Mr. Connell enjoyed living at their home in Long Beach Island, NJ, traveling with his wife to see family, going on cruises, and spending time with his dog Morey.

Funeral services and internment at Arlington National Cemetery, March 10, 2011 at 1PM.
