Gilean "Gil" Ann Newman, age 25, of Torrington, Wyoming, formely of Ingomar, Montana passed away on Tuesday October 22, 2002, in an automobile accident due to icy roads south of Torrington, Wyoming.

Gilean was born February 10, 1977, in Billings, Montana, the daughter of Howard and Johnna Wood Newman.

Gil grew up in the Ingomar area, where she attended grade school and later graduating from Melstone High School in 1995.

While in High School, Gil was active in 4-H, FFA, basketball, track, and rodeo. Gil was a member of the National Honor Society.
Following her graduation, Gil attended Miles City Community College on a Basketball Scholarship.
While at MCCC, Gil was a member of the Rodeo Team.

Gil then went to Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma, where she competed for the Rodeo Team, and later graduating with a degree in Animal Science.

Gil went to work for USTRC in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which led her to the AQHA in Amarillo, Texas, where Gil was the Director of the Recreational Riding Program.

While in Amarillo, Gil met the love of her life Scott Salo.

Together, they moved to Torrington, WY. where Gil lived until the time of her death.

She was currently a merchandising representative for Wrangler.

Gil's life with Scott in Torrington is everything she had wanted. Thier interests were the same including horses, rodeos, and roping. Gil loved her horses and the western lifestyle.

Gil won the Outlaw Rodeo series in the Breakaway roping and the average in the mixed Team Roping at the Wyoming Rodeo Finals. At the Finals Gil qualified in the Breakaway and the Team Roping this year.

Gil was a USTRC Champion in two events at the Regional Finals in Cheyenne, WY. Gil was headed for the USTRC National Finals next week where she had won National Showdowns.

Gil was a vibrant, beautiful, kind, loving, tender, caring, independent women who touched everyone that met her. Words cannot describe the beautiful person she was and how much she will be missed. Her smile was unbelievable.

A beautiful life with Scott was cut short due to this accident. They had planned on being married next fall.
Gil was the love of Scott's life.

Survivors include: Gil's parents, Howard and Johnna of Ingomar, Montana: Gil's fiance, her best friend in love and life Scott Salo of Torrington, Wyoming.
Gil's sister, Ashlee (Loyd) Ketchum of Miles City, Montana. Gil's grandparents, Wilson Albert Newman and Jean Newman of Ingomar, Montana, and Dale Valgamore of Nye, Montana.

of Melstone, Montana, Stanley and Bette Newman of Hayward, California, Dean and Linda Newman of Winifred, Montana, Doug and Mickey Wood of Las Vegas, Nevada, Rhonda and Casey Stevens of Reno, Nevada.

As well as numerous cousins, extended relatives and friends, who will dearly miss her.

Gil was preceded in death by her Grandmother Dorothy Katherine Etchemendy Valgamore

Wherever Gil went, she made friends,
her bubbly personality naturally
drew people to her.

The family suggests memorials be to Howard and Johnna Newman, P.O. Box 63, Ingomar, MT 59039 for a scholarship in Gilean's name.
