On February 14, 1942, Mabel married Frank Athon in Lyndon. They had one son, James Dean Athon. Mabel lived all of her life in the Lyndon area until moving to Topeka in July 2010. She was a homemaker and a member of the Vassar United Methodist Church.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her son, James; three brothers, Glenn, Leonard and Danny; and three sisters, Wilma, Dorothy and Esther.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Eva Athon; her 3 grandchildren, Kim (Tim) Stich, Candy Athon and John Athon, a great-grandson, Dustin, and a great-great-grandaughter, Chloe, all of Topeka; her 3 brothers, Harold of Osage City, Wallace of Elephant Butte, N.M. and Larry of Conroe, TX.; her sister, Mildred McCreight of Lyndon, many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mabel will be held on Saturday, December 18th at 11:30 a.m. at Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Burial will be in the Vassar Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vassar United Methodist Church and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS.
