Audie M. Hunter, 91, of Weeki Wachee, FL, passed away on Dec. 11, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 16 at Pakachong Church, 203 Pakachoag Street, Auburn, MA 01501. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.
Mrs. Hunter was born July 27, 1919, in Crossvillem the daughter of Richard and Harriet Garret Cox.
She was the owner of Audie's Beauty Room in Auburn and Audie's Beauty Salon in Tatnuck Square, Worcester, MA. She moved to Miami during WWII and helped in the war effort working as a "Rosie the Riveter" and soon became an inspector for Conair Aircraft. Relocating after the war to Auburn, she was active with Eastern Star, Pakachoag Congregational Church, P.T.A., and the Girl and Boy Scouts.
A graduate of Brom's Hairdressing Academy in Worcester, and Seminole Community College in FL., she contended her best education came from traveling around the world aboard the Queen Elizabeth II World Cruise in 1986 and the MS Vistaflord World Cruise in 1987.
Survivors include her children; Jeanne E. Hunter of Auburn, M. Sue Black of Weeki Wachee, FL., William Van Hunter of New York, NY, Vernon G. Hunter of Kingston, NY, K. Lynn Leland of Mt. Airy, MD and Richard C. Hunter of Orlando, FL.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William W. Hunter and Carl W. Pearson; son, Vernon G. Goss; and daughter, Nancy R. Hunter.
