Margerie Gladys Wood was born March 17, 1924, in Hagen (near Prince Albert), Sask. to Martin and Thille (Kjos) Gonvick. She was baptized in Saron Lutheran Church in Hagen and attended first grade in a school that spoke only Norwegian. When she was 7 years old, the family returned home to Gonvick, Minn. On Jan 1st, 1942, she was married to Robert O. Wood in Gonvick and the couple spent a long honeymoon touring south to Florida and back home by way of New York City.

They farmed in Benson County. In 1958, they built a home south of Devils Lake in Ramsey County where their five children were raised. Margerie was active in St Olaf and Peace Lutheran Churches, served as secretary of the ELCA Women's group, was on the Pipe Organ committee, and sang in the choirs. She was President of Ramsey Co Republican Women in the 1960's.

Her children were the love of her life and she was active in encouraging them to attend college. She was a talented seamstress and sewed costumes for many of the Frost Frolic shows as well as for the LRJC productions and helped with Fort Totten Little Theatre. She was a member of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council for three years. One highlight of her life was a trip to the Holy Land with her son, Rob, in 1981, for 6 weeks with a Concordia Seminar. She was a Girl Scout leader and active in scouting for many years. She enjoyed taking a few classes at LRJC especially in painting and sewing. Her garden was a joy to her and she worked many hours there.
