Dewey Elsa Harris was born in Iowa in 1899, the son of Robert and Mary Harris. The family moved on to Kansas, then to Idaho. In 1918 he married Grace Ruth Ainsworth in Idaho Falls, Idaho. The couple were in the grocery business together. For many years, they owned a grocery store in Nampa, Canyon county, Idaho, and lived in a separate house behind the store. After they retired they moved to San Jacinto, Riverside county, California, but Dewey died after only one year of retirement.
