Corporal, Parachute Company, 3rd Battalion Royal 22e Régiment (Van Doos), based in Valcartier, Québec. He was deployed with the Canadian contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.

Cpl Steve Martin died after an improvised explosive device went off while he was on foot patrol near a major road construction project in the Panjwai district of Kandahar province. On his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, he was killed two days before his 25th birthday.

Cpl Martin was from Saint-Cyrille-de- Wendover, near Drummondville, QC. He was described as a bon vivant and someone who enjoyed the outdoors. Earlier in the year he served in Haiti as part of Canada's aid efforts following a devastating earthquake. He leaves behind his partner Christel Lambert, parents Eloi Martin and Chantal Gauthier, older brothers Patrick and Stéphane, his sisters-in-law, nieces and nephew, along with many other relatives and friends.

Date of enlistment October 5, 2005 Trois Rivières, QC. He received the General Campaign Star – SOUTH-WEST ASIA.

Funeral Mass with full military honours was held on December 29, 2010 at l'Eglise Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover. Burial in Sainte-Clotilde-de-Horton Cemetery.

Canada has lost 154 military personnel since the Afghanistan mission began in 2002. One diplomat, a journalist and two aid workers have also died.
