Although his death certificate states that he was born in 1849, that can't be correct. He isn't on the 1850 census. He must have been born in October 1850 or, more likely, 1851. The 1900 census shows 1852.
As a boy he was called Tad in the family, and later in life, he went by Ed or Edgar.
He married Caroline Virginia Martz on 13 Dec 1878 in Rockingham Co., VA.
About 1900, Edgar & his family moved from Harrisonburg, Rockingham Co., VA to Newport News, VA and then to Richmond. Around the time of his move from Harrisonburg, he changed the spelling of his last name from Sprinkel to Sprenkle.
Edgar & Caroline had eight children: William Clarence; Arthur David; Claude Elmo; Rheaca Virginia (Whitmore); Anna Elizabeth (Larsen); unnamed infant daughter; Josephine; & Edna Cornelia (Morecock).
Note that while his gravestone has a "Sr." after his name, he did not have a son named Clarence Edgar. One son had the middle name Clarence and a grandson was named Clarence, but that shouldn't have triggered "Sr." So "Sr." is curious.
