Paul B. Holleran, 85, of 520 Oakhurst Drive, Clinton's oldest practicing attorney, died Saturday in The Alverno Health Care Facility, following a lingering illness.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Irenaeus Catholic Church. The Rev. Msgr. A.J. Burke, the Rev. Thomas Doyle and the Rev. George Hoenig will be celebrants. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Irenaeus Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Prentice W. Shaw., J. Drew Chambers, John P. Murphy, Jeffrey Stoutner, Vincent Kearney and Lawrence Subcleff. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Clinton County Bar Association.

Mr. Holleran was born July 25, 1903, in Clinton to Frank L. and Elizabeth (May) McDonnell Holleran.

He was a graduate of Lyons High School, attended St. Thomas College in St. Paul, Minn., and attended law school at the University of Iowa.

He was admitted to the Iowa bar in 1926.

He was the senior member of the firm founded by his father in 1891, now known as Holleran, Shaw, Murphy and Stoutner.

Mr. Holleran served as president of the Clinton County Bar Association in 1948, and was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 1959. He served on the board of governors of the Iowa State Bar Association from 1961 to 1965, and was inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers in 1964. Mr. Holleran was a member of the American Bar Association, Iowa State Bar Association, Clinton County Bar Association, Knights of Columbus, Clinton Country Club and numerous civic and social groups. He was a past director of the Iowa State Savings Bank and a member of St. Irenaeus Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert P. of Clinton, and Dr. Brent J. of Carmel, Ind.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, C. Brent Holleran, of Naples, Fla.; and two sisters, Mrs. Edmund C. (Miriam) Walsh III of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Leo J. (Jeanette) Miltner of Bettendorf.

He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
