Ray A. Martin, 81, Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at the M. L. McCreedy Home. Born October 14, 1919, in Memphis, he was the son of James Orville and Blanche E. Loney Martin. He married Helen L. Maxwell on June 29, 1940, in Lancaster. Mr. Martin spent most of his life in Washington, Iowa. He worked for the Washington County Highway Department for 30 years retiring in 1981. After retiring, he moved to Missouri for 20 years before returning to Washington, Iowa, in 2001. He enjoyed hunting, trapping and dancing. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge. Survivors include four children, son, Joe Martin and his wife, Janet, Washington, Iowa; daughter, Linda Kuntz, Arkansas; son, Robert Martin, Mississippi; and a daughter, Mary Ann Minick and husband Bob, Washington, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great great grnadson; a brother, Earl Martin, Washington State; and three sisters, Hazel Job, Canton; Mary Dawon, New Hampton, Iowa; and Lena Davis, Canton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; one son, Danny Martin; two infant sons; eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2001 at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa, with Rev. Melvin Koehn officiating.
