A Clinton Man Dies After Being Hit By A Car
Willard Lee Arterberry, 81, Clinton, Iowa, died Saturday June 1, 2002, at the Eagle Point Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Clinton. The body will be cremated & memorial graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in the Oakland Cemetery in Clinton.
He was born Jan. 1, 1921, iin Tishomingo, Okla. to William & Mary Merrick Arterberry. He worked as a steel worker with Allied Steel in Clinton for 30 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors include one sister, Carrie Varner of Baldwin; one half-brother, Edgar Hill of Clinton. He is preceded in death by his parents & one brother, Winford.
Willard Arterberry was injured while walking north across Eighth Ave. South on Friday morning May 5th, when he stepped off a concrete island dividing a four lane section of the road. He stepped into the path of a west-bound car coming off the U.S. 30 bridge from Illinois. He was taken to Mercy North Hospital then transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinic in Iowa City then transferred to the Nursing home in Clinton.
