The Long Island Medical: Volume XVIII, 1941, No.4:

Dr. Buckmaster died in Columbus, Ohio, on August 30th, 1941, at the age of 81 years.

He was a graduate of the Long Island College Hospital, class of 1883, and afterwards served as Interne at St. Peter's Hospital, and later was connected with St. Mary's in the same city, where he practiced until 1890. In that year he moved to New York, where he became noted as a Gynecologist and Obstetrician. Dr. Buckmaster was associated visiting surgeon with Dr. Thomas Addis Emmett, at the Woman's Hospital. He and the younger Dr. (Duncan) Emmett founded a monthly journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

In 1894 he was called to the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, where he filled the two chairs of Gynecology and Obstetrics. It was through his efforts that the University Hospital was built. Dr. Buckmaster was the first surgeon in the State of Virginia to perform a Caesarean operation.

After twelve years he returned to Brooklyn and became Medical Examiner at the Mutual Life Insurance Company until after the first World War. He then took up his residence in Columbus, Ohio, where he was living at the time of his death. He was a member of many medical societies, including the American Medical Association, and of the Brooklyn Club and former Hamilton Club.

His wife, who was a Miss Elliott, sister of General Elliott of the U.S. Marine Corps, died many years ago. He left a daughter, Miss Helen Buckmaster, a step-daughter, Mrs. Edward W. Campion, both of Columbus, and a son, Captain Elliott Buckmaster, U.S.N., now commanding the plane carrier "Yorktown." To them the Alumni Association extends deep sympathy.

Dr. Buckmaster was cremated.

Augustus's step-daughter, Marie Campion, is memorial #46301085.
