John Mogg is the son of Thomas Mogg (1763-1825) and Phoebe Rowe (1765-1853).
He married Elizabeth Taylor on May 18, 1818 in Pyworthy, Devon, England. Of this union, there were 11 children, 7 who grew to adulthood.
In 1842, after all their children were born, the family immigrated to Usborne, Huron, Ontario, Canada. They farmed there until the 1860's when John, Elizabeth and the younger children moved to Saugeen, Bruce.
