In 1900 he and his parents and sister and brother lived on a farm in Clearfield Township, Butler County, PA. They owned their home, mortgage free. Also living with them was a servant, 16-year-old Frances P Caldwell.

In 1910 he and his wife and their three children lived in a house that they owned, mortgage free, on Craigsville Road in Clearfield Township, Butler County, PA. He worked as a house carpenter.

In 1920 he and Clara and their four children lived in a house they were renting at 314 Arthur Street in Kittanning, PA. He worked as a laborer for a gas company.

In 1930 he and his wife and their four youngest children lived there in the same house. They were paying $15 a month rent, and did not have a radio. He worked as a laborer for a gas and oil company.

In 1940 he and Clara and their three youngest children lived in a house they owned in Cowansville, PA. Their home was valued at $1400. He worked as a laborer for the P.W.A., with an income in 1939 of $1600 for 52 weeks of work, and William worked as a laborer for U.S. Dam, with an income in 1939 of $1092 for 28 weeks of work.
