MEMBER OF PIONEER FAMILY CLAIMED BY DEATH

RITES TUESDAY - FUNERAL SERVICES TO BE HELD FROM HIS HOME

Charles August Simank, life-long resident of this section of Texas and member of a prominent pioneer family, died at 7:18 Sunday evening at the Scott and White Hospital in Temple, after a lingering illness, having been in failing health for months. He was 71 years of age.

Born at Fayetteville, Fayette County, March 10, 1870, he spent his boyhood there and attended the local schools. He was married to Miss Zulie Knolle at Industry, April 12, 1898, and for some years they made their home at Industry, where he engaged in the contracting and furniture business adn also conducted a funeral directing business. In 1909 he moved to Rosenberg and became associated with the Meyer Foster Land and Loan Company in the real estate business. Desiring to give his children better educational opportunities he moved to Brenham in 1914 when he bought the TF Matchett Undertaking Company business and later established a furniture business known as Ehlert and Simank. His son, Leon Simank, succeeded him as a funeral director. Some years ago he disposed of his furniture business and engaged extensivey in the ranching and cattle business at various points, also accumulating much valuable property through real estate activities. he also was active in various other enterprises, having widespread business interests.

Mr. Simank was an active and faithful member of the First Methodist Church of Brenham, serving at different times on the board of trustees and for years on the board of stewards.

Besides his widow he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edgar Matchett and Mrs. Roy Loesch; two sons, Leon Simank and Burney Simank; and one grandchild, Leon Simank, Jr., all of Brenham; and the following brothers and sisters; H.J. Simank of Altadena, Calif.; Ben O. Simank (of) Los Angeles; E.W. Simank, Stillwater, Okla.; L.O. Simank, Houston; Mrs. F.D. Neumann, Sinton; Mrs. Ed Seydler, Weimar; and Mrs. Tom Fordtran of Fayetteville. His parents, two brothers, and a sister preceded him to the grave.

Funeral services will be held from the family residence on South Austin Street at 3:00 Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. R.L. Lemons, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating, assisted by Rev. S.W. Thomas, superannuated pastor and an old friend of the Simank family. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Active pall bearers are to be Dr. G.W. Wiebusch, F.H. Bosse, Theo. Luedemann, E.F. Kruse, A.W. Hodde, Robt. J. Schawe, Oscar Schilling, and A.J. Wendt.

Trustees and stewards of the First Methodist Church and all other friends of the family will be considered honorary pall bearers.
