Edith Comilla Shelby Franks born in Hardin County, Tennessee on September 4, 1912 the daughter of Clyde Walker and Mary Frances Tucker Shelby.

She was united in marriage to Edward Archie Franks on October 18, 1936. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2000.

Mrs. Franks was an active member of the Big Ivy Cumberland Presbyterian Church and in later years became a member of the Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Big Ivy Home Makers FCE Club since 1933, the Hardin County Farm Bureau Women's Chairman for several years and writer of the Big Ivy Community News in the Savannah Courier since the 1950s. She enjoyed and loved her family, friends, and church.

Mrs. Franks is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Sue Vickery and husband Clarence Junior and Laura Frances Rushing all of Savannah, Tennessee, 4 grandchildren, Dennis Vickery and wife Angie, Belinda Fran Woods Sorrell and husband Bedford of Memphis, Tennessee, James Allen Woods and wife Anita of Savannah, Tennessee, Gregory Neil Woods and wife Karen of Lexington, Tennessee, 6 great grandchildren, Carrie Ann Vickery, William Woods, Nicole Woods, Tucker Woods, BreAnna Jones, and Paige Jones; a brother, Clinton Shelby of Knoxville, Tennessee; two sisters, Tera Irvin and husband Jack of Mt. View, Missouri, Lura Volner and husbnad Weldon of Memphis, Tennessee, a sister-in-law Louise Shelby of Savannah, Tennessee, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Leonard and Milton Shelby.
