William C. Byard, aged 91, of Oneonta, died March 13 in the Jones Nursing Home in Oneonta, after a long illness.
He was born December 25, 1866, in Milford, the son of Thomas and Mary (Shepherd) Byard. He married Clara Davis in 1896 in Milford. She died in 1932. He married Lottie Chase Tipple in Hartwick in 1934. He lived most of his life in Milford and had spent the last nine years in Oneonta.
He was a member of the Milford Methodist Church and of its official board for 50 years and was an honorary member of the board at the time of his death. Mr. Byard, a contractor, built the Methodist Church in Milford. He was superintendent of the Sunday School tor 25 years and taught a young man's class at the Church.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Bertram Wellman of Durham, N.H.; one stepson, Edwin Tipple of Fy Creek; two step-daughters, Mrs. Louis G. Hover of Deposit and Miss Dorothy Tipple of Albany; three grandchildren, Roger Hover of Deposit and Margaret and Jean Tipple of Fly Creek, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Milford Methodist Church, with the Rev. Philip Pitcher, pastor, officiating. The body was placed in the Bookhout Funeral Home vault in Oneonta for later burial in Milford Cemetery."
