2nd Lieut. Jeremiah D. McLester, Co H "Stanly Marksmen" 14th NC Infantry Regiment.

Enlisted 5 May 1861 at age 23 years. Mustered in as a Pvt. and promoted to Sgt. on 27 Apr 1862. Elected 3rd Lt. on 3 Oct 1862. Present and accounted for until wounded in the head and captured at or near Gettysburg, Pa (2-4 Jul 1863).

Confined at Fort Delaware Prison, DE until transferred to Johnson's Island, Ohio on 18 Jul 1863. Johnson's Island is located 3 miles from Sandusky, Ohion in Sandusky Bay, Lake Erin. Johnson's Island was used to confine Confederate Officers only. He was confined at Johnson's Island until paroled on 14 Mar 1865 and transferred to Cox's Warf, James River, VA. There he was paroled and released after taking "Oath of Allegiance".

Note: On 16 September 1932, Jeremiah's daughter Mrs. C.L. Bunn (Lillie Jane McLester Bunn) made application for a government headstone for her father. The application gave his death as 9 October 1909. Lillie was living at 38 West Academy St., Concord, Cabarrus County, NC.
