Joe Pressley was the second of 6 children born to Gaston and Maudie Franklin Presley. He was raised in a Christian home, and taught his children the same. He married Ruby Rogers on March 19, 1935, and together they raised 7 children. He was a hardworking man, working for many years and retiring from American Enka Corporation, but the thing that he may have been best known for was his faith in God. He was a praying man, who had a small "praying house" he built in the woods above his home in the Burnette Cove Community. He spent many hours talking to God. In later years, he was blind, he believed as a result of exposure to chemicals at work. He looked forward to Heaven, where he would be able to see again. He passed away Dec. 1, 1992 from cancer. He was a strict, but fair and loving father, and also a wonderful grandfather and husband.
