George Theodore Schwamb, age 87, of Essex, formerly of Greenwich, the beloved husband of the late Jean Ann (Johnson) Schwamb, passed away on Wednesday morning, December 22, 2010 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown.

He was born in Elmhurst, New York and grew up in Queens Village, Long Island.

Mr. Schwamb enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and served in the South Pacific with Company C, 596 Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion. He served in four invasions, Cape Gloucester, New Britain Island, Los Negros in the Admiralty Islands, Noemfoor Island in Dutch New Guinea, and Lingayen Gulf on the Luzon Island in the Philippines.

He served the Boy Scouts of America for over fifty years in both Queens Village and Greenwich. He graduated from Suny College in Farmingdale, Long Island with a degree in electrical engineering.

In 1951, he married Jean Ann Johnson from Port Washington, Long Island and they moved to Greenwich.

Mr. Schwamb worked at Burndy Engineering and had his own patent on aircraft connectors while with the company. He also worked with the Coca Cola Bottling Company in the Bronx. He took early retirement and he and his wife built a home in Essex. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Centerbrook and Trinity Mount Olive Lodge, AF&AM in Deep River.

He leaves his three children, Theodore Robert Schwamb of West Springfield, MA, Richard Scott Schwamb of Bellmore, NY, and Susan Johnson Henderson of Beaver Falls, PA, and six lovely grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Sunday (December 26, 2010) from 5:00-7:30 p.m. at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home 34 Main Street, Centerbrook. Funeral Services will be held on Monday (December 27, 2010) at 10:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 109 Main Street, Centerbrook.
Interment with full military honors accorded will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Kew Gardens, New York.
