Edgar Louis Bolden

One of the brave Tuskegee Airmen and great American Edgar Louis Bolden, 85, passed away at his home in Portland, Oregon this 4th day of March, 2007.

Edgar was born in Arlington, Virginia the son of William H Bolden and Viola Pearl Hyson. He graduated from Armstrong High School in Washington D. C in 1939.

After graduating from High School Edgar signed up for the military and would be accepted to aviation cadet school. He graduated from the Tuskegee Flight School in Alabama on the 5th of December, 1943 with class 43-K-SE the first class of twin-engine pilots to graduate.

After the war he continued his schooling at Howard University where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and taught at the college in 1949.

After graduating he found work at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, the Bureau of Standards in Washington and later RCA in New Jersey where he specialized in space and defense communication systems. In 1969 he moved back to Washington D.C. where he joined the FAA and would eventually retire in 1980. He was a member of Calloway United Methodist Church while in Arlington. In 1994 he moved from Arlington to the Portland area.
