Graveside services will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Carlsbad Cemetery for William Buford "Bood" Briggs, 78, 1210 W. Greene St., who died Feb. 14, 1986, in the local hospital.

The Rev. Frank Hodnett of the Gardens Street Baptist Church will officiate, with West Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Born April 27, 1907, in Wing, Ark., he moved to Carlsbad in 1923 and has made his home here since then. He and Buna Ward were married Sept. 26, 1927, in Carlsbad. He was employed as a butcher at Claude West's grocery store for several years before operating the Briggs Brothers grocery. Later he was employed by International Harvester, and then Forni Bros. Implement Co. in Loving. He retired in 1963. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Woodmen of the World.

Survivors include: his wife, Buna Briggs, Carlsbad; two sons, Bill Briggs of Carlsbad and Douglas Briggs, Bay Town, Texas; two daughters, Mari Belle Davis of Carlsbad and Pamela Chamblis, North Pole, Alaska; five brothers, R.D., Hence and Pat Briggs, all of Carlsbad, Compton Briggs of Lovington and Harry Briggs, Green River, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
