Calvin Barchus entered the USS Naval Service in February 1945. He was trained at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. On May 4, 1945 he was assigned to a transport, then was transferred to the USS Bennington.On June 29 1945 he was killed while on active duty in the Pacific. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Backus MN, his hometown.
