This is a tintype of Daniel B. Replogle of Gibson County, Tennessee. The Replogle family hailed from Alsace-Lorraine along the German-French border. The family moved to Rutherford County, Tenn. by 1810 and by 1830 were in Madison County, Tennesessee. Daniel was born in Tennessee in 1825. He signed an oath of allegiance to the United States in August 1862 to allow him to pass within Union lines. According to the family he signed a similar oath for the Confederates.
