6th child of Granville Nathan and Ella Luvernia Dulin Thornton, Orin was born at 6:10 P.M. at Barlow Township. His parents mailing address on the birth certificate was Vincent, Ohio, R.D.1. Orin attended Wolf Creek School and Waterford High. On 4 July 1938 he married Lucille Ruth Pierce of Waterford. They had 4 children, Jerry Lee, Janet Lucille, Judith Lynn, and Joan Leslie Thornton. Orin served in the U.S. Army occupation forces in Japan in '45 and '46, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He retired in 1977 after a 36 year career with the Timken Company, having served in the plant protection force, and becoming Supervisor of Police, Fire, and Safety. He & Lucille celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988, and had been married 61 years at the time of her death in January 2000. Orin was 85 years 4 months and 25 days of age at the time of his death, and had 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A man of strong character and hard-headed determination, with an uncommon measure of common sense, Orin had worked very hard to make a good life for his family.
