Obituary: Longtime Alamosa resident Martha Ann McDaniel, 75, died December 18, 2010 at her home in Alamosa under hospice care.

Martha was born March 1, 1935 in Alamosa to Elmer and Carrie Irvin Wright. She married her husband and was sealed for all time and eternity in the Manti, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 7, 1958.

Martha worked for a time as a teacher for the Alamosa Schools and taught piano lessons for many years. She loved music and enjoyed being a part of the Sweet Adelines singing group. On many occasion and especially during the holiday season, she joined a local group of singers who entertained in many places throughout the community. Martha's favorite time of year was during the holiday season and she especially enjoyed Christmas. Martha also served on several community boards and fulfilled many church callings.

She is survived by her loving husband Leland McDaniel of Alamosa; her children: Marshall (Brenda) McDaniel of La Jara and Sharon Beal of Anthem, Ariz.; her sisters: Donna (David) Peterson of Albuquerque, N.M. and Lila (Robert) Hanson of Gilbert, Ariz.; her grandchildren: Steven and Joslin Bunker and Taylor Ward; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law and extended family members.

Her parents, her brothers Monte Wright and George Wright, her sisters-in law and brothers-in-law Dorothy (Winslow) Christensen and Helen (LaVerne) Welker all preceded her in death.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 21st at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa and from 10-10:45 a.m. Wednesday, December 22nd in the Relief Society Room at the Church. A Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 22nd at the Alamosa Third Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3rd and Richardson Streets, in Alamosa. Interment will follow services in the Sanford Cemetery. Contributions in her memory are suggested to the Alamosa 3rd Ward Perpetual Education Fund and may be made in care of the funeral home office. Rogers Family Mortuary of Alamosa is in care of the arrangements.
