Anna was the eldest child of Fred and Edna Saul. As a child she was physically inept and in later life recounted how when Daddy wanted her to drive the mules they would totally ignore her efforts until Daddy would say gently, "Anna, why don't you go get "Sissy" (Sister Thelma, 4 years her junior) to come do this?" But she excelled in other things: She went to elementary and two years of high school at Logan Hollow which was all that was required for a teaching certificate. She then went one year at SINU at Carbondale She spent the next 37 years teaching in the school systems of Jackson and Randolph counties and as a special education teacher in East St. Louis.

She married Russell Clendenin in 1928. They had one son born in 1942. Russell went to the Navy. Anna went back to teaching school and Thelma, who could drive mules took care of Darrell! During her teaching years she continued her education through the summer by taking college courses finally earning a Bachelor degree after retirement.

Anna had a passion for geneology and spent thousands of hours researching and traipsing through little-known cemeteries. Most of the history of the Grosvenor family on this network is her research. After Russell died Anna moved to an assisted living home in Murphysboro where she lived out her remaining years. She was a non-smoker who died from lung cancer.
