Benjamin Waller Stephens Sr (1797-1850) and an unidentified (as of Nov2016) woman in Abbeville County, SC were married about 1817. Evidence indicates that the mother died during birth of either Agness Robinson Stephens or the couple's 2nd infant.

Benjamin, his sister Dorothy & her husband Zachary Logan, and William C Wardlaw families emigrated to Greene County in 1824. Benjamin purchased 80 acres in Greene County, returned to Abbeville County in 1826, married Margaret Only Wardlaw (1794-1874) in late 1826, and emigrated back to Greene County in 1827. Benjamin's 80-acre farm was adjacent to the 80-acre farm purchased by William C Wardlaw in 1824 - the plots are located 3-4 miles north of Eutaw near the old Warrior River landing.

Circumstantial evidence suggests that William Franklin Henderson (future husband of Agness) signed an indentured contract (likely with Benjamin Stephens) to work 7 years in return for 80 acres of land in Greene County. William purchased his 80 acres in the Snoddy Community in Jan1832. William and Agness were married 24Nov1835 - they raised a family and lived their lives on that 80-acre farm.

Note: 'Agness' and 'Robinson' are female names which occur in five successive Stephens/Henderson generations. The first Henderson-Roebuck marriages occurred after 1900 between four of Agness' grandchildren and four Roebucks.
