"Mrs. Mary E. Awtrey, 84, died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John R. Hilton of 501 Augusta Street, West Columbia. A daughter of the late William Bowles and Millie Adams Bowles of Newberry County, She had made her home in West Columbia since 1899. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John R. Hilton; and two sons, Alvin Awtrey, Sr. and W. E. Awtrey, Sr. of West Columbia; a sister; seven grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Thursday afternoon from Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. D.F. Swicegood and the Rev. W.J. Smoak. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will be at Mrs. Hilton's residence, 501 Augusta Street. Thompson Funeral Home is in charge."
