Phyllis Lorraine Shurson, age 93, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2018 at the New Richland Care Center. A funeral service for Phyllis will be on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. Visitation will be from 9am to 11am at the church and funeral to follow at 11:00. Interment will be in St Olaf Cemetery. Phyllis was born on November 26, 1924, (the daughter of Howard and Anna Andrews) in Titonka, Iowa. She graduated Valedictorian of her high school class in Titonka, Iowa. Phyllis later attended Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester graduating as a three year RN. Phyllis started her nursing career at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa and then Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea and completed her career in nursing as the School Nurse at New Richland/Hartland schools. Phyllis was very active at Trinity Lutheran Church and she was a member of the New Richland Legion Auxiliary. Throughout the years, Phyllis enjoyed quilting and her church friends, playing bridge, traveling the country with her husband Bud, and watching the Minnesota Twins. Phyllis married George (Bud) Shurson on November 7, 1947 – they lived their almost 71 years together in New Richland. Phyllis is survived by her husband, her daughters Georgia (Dennis) Dinneen, Debra (Joseph) Repya and LuRaye (Howard) Eischens, grandchildren Matther (Jen) Dinneen, Kevin (and fiancée Abby Vercauteren) Dinneen, Stephanie (Carson) Friend, Tyler Eischens, great grandchildren, Madison and Ava Dinneen, and Charles Friend. Phyllis is also survived by step grandchildren, Robyn White and her children Cooper and Watson, Molly (Eric) Geyen and children Haylee, Bodhi, Jacob and Rose. Phyllis also leaves behind sister-in-law, Lorma Marcue, sister-in-law, Joan McGuire, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Survivors also include Lorayne Shurson, Vince Peterson and Pat Shurson. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Donavan Andrews, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
