Myra Brumfield Humphries

Myra Brumfield Humphries, a long-time resident of the Mid-South, passed away on January 25, 2007 in Mission, TX of natural causes at age 86. There will be a memorial service at the Sallis Baptist Church on Saturday, February 3 at 10:00 a.m. with interment in Mizpah Cemetery in Durant.

Born Myra Evelyn Brumfield on September 13, 1920 in Silver City, MS, Myra devoted much of her life to educating others. A graduate of Mississippi State College for Women, she enjoyed a teaching career in the Sallis and McAdams school districts for a number of years. A respected home economist throughout Attala County as an adult, Myra is also remembered for her marksmanship ability as a young woman growing up in rural Mississippi, it being said that she "could shoot the eye out of a crow". She was active in the Sallis Methodist Church. In 1956 she married Tom Maury Humphries of Durant,MS, and became the mother of two daughters, Lucy and Laura. After residing in Memphis for several decades the Humphries retired to Mission, where she survived the loss of her daughter Laura and last year her husband Maury.

Mrs. Humphries is survived by her daughter Lucy Baessler of Durant, son-in-law Rick Baessler, and grandson Richard Baessler. She is also survived by her only remaining sibling, Ltc. (retired) Hunter Marion Brumfield of San Antonio, TX.
