Oakey Virginia Lambert, 85, of Charlottesville, went home to Heaven peacefully Saturday, December 25, 2010, at a local nursing facility.

Born on December 20, 1925, in Sperryville, she was the daughter of the late Floyd W. and Josie Mae Pullen Menefee. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann V. Layton; and three brothers, Cleveland, Richard and Earl Menefee.

She is survived by her husband of over 54 years, Haswell "Jack" J. Lambert of Charlottesville; two sisters, Margaret Fincham of Front Royal and Bertie Pullen of Flint Hill; two brothers, James Menefee and Roger Menefee, both of Little Washington; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Oakey cherished her husband, Jack, and was a caring, loving wife for their many years of marriage. She was a wonderful aunt and enjoyed many happy times with her nieces and nephews. Though she had no children of her own, she was a caregiver to many children through the years and children just loved her in return because of her gentle, loving spirit. She was a lifelong member of Belmont Baptist Church, where she had many friends that became part of her family.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Cedars Nursing Facility for the care given to Oakey since she became a resident and especially during her recent illness. Also, a special thank you to the staff at Hospice of the Piedmont for the care and comfort they provided to Oakey, Jack and the rest of the family as her illness progressed.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2011, at the Belmont Baptist Church, with the Reverend Greg Anderson officiating.

Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Way, Suite #300, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
