Brother Richard Gerlach died on December 23, 2010 at St. Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona, MN, two days before his 97th birthday. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 79 years, he was born Raymond Gerlach in St. Paul, MN, the son of William and Margaret (Hechtl) Gerlach. He received a B.S.S. degree from Saint Mary's College (now University) in Winona in 1935 and an M.A. from St. Louis University in 1940. His professional career included teaching assignments in Chicago and Evanston, IL, and St. Louis, MO. He was Principal of CBC in Memphis from 1947 to 1958. Survivors include nieces and nephews and the Christian Brothers at Saint Mary's University. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, January 3, 2011, at St. Thomas More Chapel on the campus of St. Mary's University, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Memorials may be sent to De La Salle Christian Brothers Retirement Fund, 7650 S. County Line Rd., Burr Ridge, IL 60527.
