He left his home of Arapkir, Turkey and joined his brother Arakel in Bridgewater, Massachusetts where they were farmers. Vahan came through Ellis Island on the La Gascogne on September 9, 1907, and his early years in the US listed his birthdate as December 27, 1889. His death record lists December 28, 1890 instead and 1890 was his accepted birth year. Vahan's mother joined them in 1909 after their father's death. Vahan served in World War I and settled in Quincy. He married Vartanoush Kurkjian and was the father of Vaughn and Nancy. He owned a bowling alley which went out of business during the Great Depression and then worked as a gravedigger at Mount Wollaston. His wife died in 1948 and he Vahan lived with his daughter and her family for the rest of his life.
