Ella was the only daughter of John H. Hutson and Mary Bargar who lived to adulthood. Her name was actually Dorcas Ella, but she didn't like Dorcas, so told people it was her middle name. The family moved, temporarily, to near Lathem, Kansas where she married Robert M. Caples on June 25, 1885. Robert knew Ella from her family's residence in Tuscarawas Co., Ohio and followed her to Kansas. Ella was the mother of three children: Ada Belle, Lee Smythe, and Grace Ella. Ella's husband was a dairy farmer and they lived at the edge of the village of Newport. In the summer of 1913 she had been sick for two weeks with typhoid when the doctor and her family thought she was getting better, but she took a sudden turn for the worse and died of an intestinal hemorrhage. She was buried from the Newport Methodist Church in the churchyard. She was a gentle, caring woman.
