The Medina County Gazette - December 14, 1964: The community was grieved Saturday to learn of the death that morning of Corl E. Edwards for 13 years a teacher in the Medina city schools.
A resident of Chippewa-on-the-lake, he died in Medina Community hospital after suffering a coronary attack a week before. He was 60.
Services will be held Tuesday at the Waite Memorial home with Rev. Daniel Remaley pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church at Chippewa Lake, in charge.
Medina junior and senior high schools, will be dismissed, the elementary schools, so teachers and pupils may attend the rites.
Out of respect to the memory of Mr. Edwards, a short memorial assembly program was held at Medina senior high school Monday morning.
Principal James Loughridge spoke of Mr. Edwards as a "dedicated professional teacher. He was a friend of students - fair, tolerant and understanding. No student ever failed to get another and then another chance with him."
The deceased leaves his wife, Eithel; a daughter; mother, Mrs. Eva Edwards of East Cleveland; brother, Howard and a sister, Mrs. LaVerne Lawson.
Mr. Edwards a native of Homerville, was graduated from Ashland college with a bachelor of arts degree, and was awarded the master of arts degree by Ohio State university.
His first teaching job was 37 years ago in West Salem in 1927. He then taught in Seville and later in Solon, where he was u\superintendent for 20 years.
He came to Medina, 14 years ago, as principal of Garfield school and later held the same position at the junior high school.
His most recent school duties were as a teacher and head of the social studies department as well as adviser to the Medina senior high school year book, which this year is to be dedicated to him.
Mr. Edwards, who for the past three years had been clerk of Chippewa-on-the-Lake village, was a member of the Chippewa Lake Lions club, West Salem Masonic lodge, National Education association, Oriental chapter of Royal Arch Masons and Ohio Education association, being delegate from the Medina city schools for two years.
