Rome was a daughter of Henry R. Ripley and Lydia Bargar. She was engaged to Edmund V. Sproul (#102878164) of Stillwater who died after breaking his collar bone in a tree cutting accident. In a newspaper clipping from 1892, it was noted that Roma was a very capable dressmaker in Rock - Rush township. She married in 1897 to Ephraim Johnson Furney as his second wife, but they had no children. They lived in a house next to the general store at Stillwater their entire married lives. As a widow, Rome moved to Uhrichsville to live with her sister, Ivah, and after Ivah's death she went to live with her niece, Helen Perkins. Rome chose to be buried next to her father and mother at Rush while E.J. is buried next to his first wife and infant son at Lima. She was the keeper of the family history and a truly gentle soul. She was beloved.
