Eloise J. Ryder Chross, 81, of St. Louis, formerly of Auburn, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Clayton, Mo. She was born June 1, 1920, the daughter of Thomas and Leota Allen Ryder. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Erwin Chross and Joseph Ashford. Mrs. Chross graduated from Auburn High School and operated a beauty shop in Auburn. She later was in charge of the Famous-Barr beauty shop in St. Louis and worked for the Missouri Department of Unemployment Service. Survivors: a son, Kenneth M. Ashford of Belmont, Calif.; a daughter, Kathy Schroeder of Columbia; and a cousin. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Monday, Auburn Cemetery, the Rev. Jerry Divjak officiating. Bramley Funeral Home in Auburn is in charge of arrangements.
